125i gets the all-new 2.5L powerhouse,already familiar from the 325i.
With over 200hp on tap (218hp to be precise),and backed by a 250nm,the revvy 125i is the second fastest 1er yet! It fills the huge performance gap between the cheaper but slower 120d,and the fastest 1er model, the 130i.

which if I recall from Roundel has a nifty new 2.5L that doesn't come to the US...

125i certainly has the new LWT mag-motor,and not any restricted old lump.

In the US, the 325's 3.0L engine is not an old lump. Its still the LTW Mag engine with valvetronic, etc- only difference is simpler intake for the lower output rating. Dani Compain

Pretty weird, but the modern BMWs rarely reveal their motor displacement.
So maybe the coming high-output I6 3.0L motor with 200kw(272hp) will be badged as 135i/335i/535i,to distinguish it from the existing 258hp ?30i models.
That'd mean the high-power 2.5L unit with 170kw(231hp) will get 128i/328i badge?

..and the sporty 185hp (135kw) high-output 2.0L would naturally be called 123i/323i etc.

Until the 123i High Output arrives lat

To fill the gap between the frugal but heavy 120d,and the 125i 6-banger,BMW should give as a lightweight 4-cyl screamer with near 100hp/l output.Kinda latter day E30M3..
