I have a s type 4.0l v8 which misfired spluttered, hiccuped !
I checked all plugs and coils Cyl.4 had oil round plug cyl.8 looked like water had been there , I replaced cyl.8 plug.
The car still was running rough.
I read on the message board that a few had replaced plugs and coils.
Sometimes it was not there and then when you eased you foot on acelerator and reapplied it gentle it was ok.
I had also heard injector connections could come loose and give problems.
I also took the negative off the battery to clear ecu .
MPG DOWN TO 19 !

Not sure what to do did not what to a dealer, probobly go to a specialist jag tech .

I decided to some injector cleaner in as along shot, I used
slick 50 fuel system the one that does the complete system.
2 days later it was running better , but still a slight pop from exhaust both sides.
I ran the car on shell optimax a bit more octane.

Then i decided to put wyns fuel system in treatment in as it was
running rough, this made no difference !

Now I had the problem for 8momths , i was going to change plugs and
check compression when all plugs out and removing fuel pump fuse as
not to pour fuel into the bores !

On wednesday 20th oct 2005 , I decided to put another dose of slick 50 full system treatment in the big cat!
The top was tricky coming off should have used gloves the one at the filling station for the diesel boys . I had the stuff on my hands!
and no restroom at this shell station only paper towel !

Then I drove of approx. 100 miles later ,I put the pedal to the metal
NO misfire sputter hiccup ! I tried it again smooth upto --- mph in 10 secs we were flying, the car seem silky smooth now.
I run the car on regular unleaed but buy from shell, bp esso only the main petol stations NOT THE HYPERMARKET OR CUT PRICE STATIONS
IT START RUNNING ROUGH AFTER USING IT FROM ONE OF THESE AS I HAD A
MONEY OFF COUPON COST MORE IN THE LONG RUN.
I used to work in oil industry the main oil companys use different additives even if the tankers come out the same terminal as the driver has a different code to select the additive!

The big cat now purrs !

I was all most of to p/x the car in as I had a enough of jags and main Dealers and jaguar cars std reply letters,

My first xj8 had new eng. under warranty. Lower ball joint and wheel bearing, and bushes . front oil cooler which I took off and used hydraulic compression fittings to repair the leak. where the cooler connected to the pipe.


If it comes back Iam of to the vet to have it put down!

I will keep you posted if it comes back.


PS MPG upto 23.5 PUSHING THE CAR TO LIMIT.
HAD 28-29mpg @ 80mph ish


Hope this helps you may have different problem but it is the easy option .
I did have my xj8 throttle body cleaned.
I think you can have your injectors cleaned at a specialist.
Main dealer prob sell you a new set ouch .

Used 3 times ! ie may take more than one treatment.
use when tank empty and re fill.
