I apologize in advance for the poor quality (and large size) of the images but I have little skill with a camera and gave no thought to background, lighting, etc. I just picked her up on Tuesday and wanted to share a few quick pics before I head out on Sunday for a month-long TDY to Alaska (so much for breaking her in any time soon ...). Plus, rain was forecast for the whole week and I wanted to take advantage of a fortuitous spot of nice weather.

I know I'm late to jump on the E46 bandwagon and, odds are, you've all seen pics of an M3 before, but I thought this was something a little different that you might not see everyday and therefore worth sharing. A million thanks to Chris at Pentagon Car Sales down in Kaiserslautern who bent over backwards to make this happen for me!

So without further ado, this is Anika, my '05 Estoril M3, immediately after delivery ...

The spoiler is off a 330 coupe, painted and installed by the dealer.

Only 5 miles on the clock!

http://xs48.xs.to/pics/05396/interior3compressed.JPG

The interior is dark estoril/black, full-leather. I also chose a bi-color steering wheel and contrasting shift/brake levers and boots. I elected to "flip-flop" the traditional two-tone pattern and make the seat centers black. My inspiration was an Individual Z4 with a similar color scheme. Otherwise, I essentially invented this interior in my mind since I really didn't have much else to go off of, and was honestly a bit nervous about how it would all turn out. I have to say all my worries vanished the instant I first laid eyes on it! I've received quite a few positive comments over the last few days, and am really pleased at how well it turned out.

Before anyone harasses me about the orange reflectors or any other glaring newbie faux pas, please keep in mind the car was literally brand new. I do have painted reflectors and will be acquiring silver turn signal bulbs. New exhaust is on the way, and a custom stereo, tint and clear bra will all be installed once I return. New wheels (leaning towards RGR's) are on the horizon next Spring, once weather becomes nicer here in Germany. I tried to get rear fogs and power-folding mirrors but the dealer said they weren't technically possible (??), so I'll re-attack that later.

I'll try to take better quality, more scenic pics whenever I can. Her first trip to Bavaria (Garmisch area) is planned this winter, so that should provide some suitable backdrops : )

All in all, this car is unbelievable and I couldn't be happier!

a very select few of slightly fruity members on RF who would complain.... :)

Anyways...congrats on the car....skip the stereo, dont put all that extra weight in there (thats my race car driver comment)...and get a set of the new RAC Wheels (www.racwheels.com)...the final rendering of the new wheel should be out soon...

Do not listen to what snook has to say. He is known around here as the messageboard idiot. He pulls out is rear seats, and he thinks he is a F1 driver. Beware though, he has NOS running thru his vains.

Best of luck with the new car.

This one blends much more than the E36 wing (which I have on my '95). I was initially a bit torn on the spoiler, since I can also appreciate the clean lines of the OEM spoiler as well as the aesthetics of the CSL trunk lid. I'd seen pics of this spoiler on an E46 M3 before and decided to give it a try. It's taped, not drilled, so I can always revert back if I change my mind, or I can try the CSL-replica route. For now, I'm pretty happy with it.

How did you manage deliver of the car with only 0.3 miles on the odometer? Other guys who've had Euro pickup have had at least 1-2 miles. Must be some kind of record. Or maybe because its Oktoberfest :-)

BTW, Oct is kinda late to be visiting Alaska. Best time is during summer around late June to July. My sister & her hubby lived there for 16-18 yrs respectively; i always loved visiting there. Too bad they've recently moved to Houston. (apologies to all the TX dudes :-)... but i lived in Dallas for 4.5 yrs long ago.

The car actually had 5 miles at delivery, the 0.3 was from driving from the showroom to that parking lot for the pics. I picked it up in Kaiserslautern (SW Germany) since they wouldn't allow Euro (aka Munich) pickup for military sales, which I thought was kinda weird. I just spent last weekend in Munich at Oktoberfest btw ; ) We went to the original Hofbrau House, highly recommended!

Not my choice about going to Alaska in October, unfortunately that's the Air Force's decision. It's right smack in the interior too, close to Fairbanks, so not much up there. Fortunately we'll be too busy to really notice.

My first encounter and with BMW M3s was in an Estoril E36... It indelibly etched, at least for me, Estoril as a classic M3 color.

A spoiler is attached to the car all the way across and only uses one side to generated downforce. A wing is attached to the back of the car and uses both sides to generate downforce.

monte at south bay bmw here in Los Angeles has same color but with black interior. it seems very bland on the E36's...maybe b/c every other one is painted that color. but it goes very well with the curves on the car.

congrats and sorry you have to leave the car so soon after picking it up!

They're twins! :) My 2002 M Coupe is also Estoril/Estoril and I adore it.

My M3 is plain ol' silver/black...now you have me jonsin' for that combo on an M3 too! :)

The total premium for my Individual options came to $6300. Now while you spit out your drink, keep in mind that included the estoril paint, two-tone full leather upholstery (the bulk of the cost), two-tone steeering wheel, shift lever/boot and brake lever/boot. Also, it already included the usual metallic paint and leather upcharges, so really I suppose it was about a $4700 difference for my Individual options. I know many folks would be unwilling to pay that much, but all I see around here are silver and black M3's and I wanted something really different! Plus, I wanted to take advantage of unlimited access to the Individual program for a US-spec car, and what price can you put on that? : ) In any event, I saved a significant amount of money through military sales, so even with all my other options (xenon, PDC, heated seats, etc) my total only came to $53K. Oh, and no taxes ; ) So I figured, why not?

Thanks for your kind comments! I know some like the spoiler, some don't. For now I'm in the "like it" camp, though someday I think a CSL trunk lid will be calling my name ...

Ken

That's the true beauty of going through military sales overseas. I went through purely German channels, so BMWNA had absolutely nothing to do with it. That's why I could get the Individual options I wanted. In fact, until I send them the US warranty paperwork (I'm under Euro warranty right now), they won't even have a clue that the car's been purchased ;)
