Help me out here...

I've been really considering a Corvette or a CTS-v lately. A decent daily driver and weekend track warrior will be its mission. I want the best performance I can get, while keeping at least "reasonable" driveability.. No real need for a back seat right now.

As far as Corvette's go, would I be better off in a year or two old Z06, and maybe few mods, or a new, properly optioned C6?!? Just looking for thoughts here. I have heard the Z06 is obviously a track monster, but absoltely horrible on the highway. I want to drive it all spring, summer, and fall, and have a 100 mile round-trip journey each day to and from work.

Thought appreciated,

I own and have owned both for some time now. If the words "daily driver" come into the mix "Z06" should stay out. Z06 is NOT a daily driver, unless you have great kidneys and deep pockets to fix the crap you bend, break, scrape, etc.

My C6 Z06 is not going to be a daily driver. Now you mentioned the word "track" ... and that it is!!!!

I have a Z06 and no way would i drive it all the time. The CTS-V hauls!

I drove my 01 z06 over 60 miles total to work each day for 4 years. If you keep the suspension stock you will be fine. IMO it was quite comfortable on the highways here in Atlanta. If you go with a 04 you will notice the difference in shocks (stiffer) that the 04 has over "rough" roads.

I also did about 30 trackdays, for that reason alone you will not be sorry.

72k miles on it when I sold it to a good friend who will continue to track it. He is selling his Z51 equiped C6.

The CTS-V is nice but don't even think that a 4000lb 4 door is even close to the Z06, which wieghs about 3100lbs.

I know that the BMWs are excellent road cars as the wife has a 99 740il.

C6 and C5 z06 are virtuall the same when it comes to performance. With that said, I would probably opt for the C6 w/ the Z51 package. A used C5 z06 should be considerably cheaper than a Z51 C6.

For the current cost, a C5 z06 is an awesome deal.
