The M5 is a beautiful car with all leather and a 400 hp V8 but the brakes and suspension and the handling did not live up to its name. I tracked the M5 once and I was so disappointed. The brakes lasted about 2 laps before I had to come in and let them cool. The car understeered so badly....I seemed like it was designed as a big, heavy highway/autobahn cruiser. It was a super car for highway cruising but not for the twisties.

I bought the car brand new and sold it in 6 months with 3000 miles....I went back to the M3. The M3 has a much better overall feel...fun on the streets and fun in the twisties. The M3 isn't perfect but it sure is an overall great compromise.

Oh yea, the M5 never got better than 19 mpg on the highway.

The new M5 is an awesome car if you can get by the ugliness (not as nice looking as the E39 M5). You now have a 4000 lb car with 500 hp as opposed to 400 hp. Now it will understeer even quicker. I love the engine, but the car is still too big for any "serious playing" (oxymoron?).

I'm hoping the E90 M3 isn't any heavier than we now have on the E46 M3 (3400 lbs or so). I'm sure it'll come with SMG III right out of the M5, which by the way is much smoother than SMG II after getting a ride in the new M5.

I was on the wait list for the E60 M5 and passed....twice now. There are lots of them available and my dealer keeps calling me to see if I want one. BMW of Eugene is a small dealership and they already have had 5 M5's available.

I love the car but it's not an M3!

But that isn't stopping me from trying to make the M5 as good as it can be.

The last time to buy a 2006 E46 M3 is May, 2006 for the coupes and ugust, 2006 for the cab. It really is a wonderful driver's car and destined to become a classic with it's looks.

I spent some time in a E39 m5 back in 2000 and thought WOW what an awesome car!! after owning the e46 then spending some time in my buddys m5 i was very disappointed and wanted my m back! kinda funny how that worked....i dont like the power output and its a very big car for an m and with a manual. its the ultimate daddy mobile, if i had kids i would be driving one but i dont need the 4 doors
