yeah, welcome, they are wonderful cars when properly maintained, but since you have owned bmws you understand that. Be prepared to enjoy your car for 100s of thousands of miles......

Congrats! Nice to have a good old Mercedes diesel, I'm curious what you think of it after driving a BMW of that time.

I have to say a nice ride - BMW's are great - But my dream has always been a Benz turbo - and Now I have one WOOHOO... The BMW and Benz are in different classes. I really like the German cars (Well at least many of them). Can't really compare as of yet -
Items to start me out:
1. replacing fuel line - as I see dampness on the existing and a little diesel on the injectors (hope fuel line fix that).
2. Dash lights not working at all - must find fuse box :-) First step them bulbs.
3. Looks are slugish (hoping oil not in vacumme line but I found the $200 fix here on line if so - THANKS)maybe just a old vaccume line.
4. Trunk lock is weird - hard to unlock and will not stay unlocked? Still have to trouble shot that.
5. startup is fine but will not stay running unless I keep gas on for a couple of minutes to warm it up - no problem after that. may be linkage - adjust or missing or some type of warm up item broke or missing????
6. Car runs great - but after 30 miles on the freeway I think I saw a puff of smoke?? haven't seen it again? maybe a build up on the block and dumped on the exhast?? Fuel lines being replaced.
Heck That is all - Little things :-)
Car has a rebuild Tranmission 20K ago and has 185,000 miles on it.

Diesels will smoke every now and then, thats normal, especially when you really open the throttle up, just clearin all that built up carbon. As far as the sluggishness, you probably need to adjust the linkages, also shoot for a valve adjustment and filter changesat the same time. All of this is considered a 30k service for these cars--also includes diff oil change and transmission fluid and filter change.....maintenance is the key to keeping these cars up to par.
