had this 81 528i for 5 years no problems. decided to use fuel injector cleaner as adverised by a popular bmw parts catalog mag based in ny, car blew head gasket. rebuilt cylinder head with new cam and placed it back very carefully following all book specs and ultra clean conditions.10 months later car blows head gasket again, this time after using a popular stp concentrated fuel injector cleaner.moral of story stay away from so called fuel injector cleaners.
question, i have another 528 with a 50k original miles motor lots of superficial rust.should i swap motors or should i go back to look fot the cause of the head gasket failure. is there anyone who has good knowledge of why this has happened
or has it happened to you.thanks ray
