I did that on my first 320is,
I didn't want to loose my door pocket so I cut the hole in the rear lower corner of the door panel. It sounded great when the doors were open but got a bit muffled when doors were closed (speakers pointed at the seat)
Another problem is the depth, because of the door window you are limited to the size of the magnet. I originally wanted to put in a 6 1/2" sub but couldn't because of the magnet.
I've been planing to put my 6 1/2" speakers back into my door panels but this time closer to the front. Either my removing the door pocket or turning it into a speaker pod to hold the speaker.
Good luck on what ever you decide.

Has anyone ever installed 61/2 inch spekers in the door panel of a 81 320i. Put in 6.5s with a 1/2inch spacer. It sounds way better than crappy 4by 6s. Easy to do too. I have a 3000$ system in my car and thats what i did. good luck Badger
