Does anyone know if snow tires 185/70/14 on a 5.5x14 inch
wheel from a Volvo 240 will fit on a 6x14 inch wheel for
an '85 735i? Was told it won't fit but wonder how the
wheel would 'know' the difference. Seems a 14" tire
will fit even if one wheel is 5.5 and the other is 6.0.
Do know a stock summer tire size is 205/60/14 but have
had good luck running with the slimmer 185 width. Thanks
for any replies.

Don't do it, man! It's not enough rubber. I'm running 21x70x14's on my old gold BBS rims that came with the car and I've got 40 lbs in them to limit sway (normally running 215x60x15's on rims off an '89 735) and the snows sway alot in compaison. Snow tires are soft rubber and 185's sound dangerous on a car this heavy and with this amount of torque. You can buy Yokohama Guardex's from Discount Tire Direct for about $57 each - they are multi-compound like Blizzaks, but have little nylon brush/studs imbedded in them. LOTS of grip.
The life you save may be your own.

: Does anyone know if snow tires 185/70/14 on a 5.5x14 inch
: wheel from a Volvo 240 will fit on a 6x14 inch wheel for
: an '85 735i?
