OK here's the problem. My friend has a 83 733i, when she first got the car it ran great for about 2 weeks. Then it just up and died. So i replaced the battery cables (both POS and NEG) and checked a lot of the connections. We put a brand new battery in it and it has ran great for about a month now. This morning she went to start it and nothing. Is there something draining it or what. I have no idea WTF is going on!
JRT
83 320i

When you replaced the battery did you check to see if it was charging? It's easy to do, just take a voltmeter, start the car and see if you are getting at least 13.50 volts. Then rev the engine and see if the voltage increases. If it does your alternator is okay, if not, that's your problem.
Bigbob
I've got lazy and let BMW Specialists handle my car. They either didn't know what I was talking off (murphy's Law) or they just couldn't find anything. Until I missed out on a date because couldn't make it. When the car stopped while driving - it let's you know - one sting after the other stops working - Spedo .... indicators ...Engine. Get my drift. Anyway it was so simple I was realy pissed off with myself.
Check the "negative" cable connection from your alternator to your engine block. It possibly is brocken (pull on it !!) on the alternator end.
What is realy enoying is that if your belt goes you get a warning light popping up on your dash. It doesn't do it when the negative cable breaks. "Well bloody done BMW"

Did you jump start the car?
Did the battery charge up?
Do the headlights work OK if you drive at night?
Test alternator, but I'm surprised it would run for a month if the alternator wasn't charging.
It could be something difficult like a short or something easy like the little rubber boots that are supposed to be on the door mechanism are missing causing the doors to close poorly and the interior lights to come on and run all night.
Recharge the battery and test the alternator.
If its OK, then you have to find whats draining the battery. If its not the alternator - post us again and someone will tell you how to chase down shorts.

OK here's the problem.
An alternator with a bad diode will drain the battery when the car is not running.
