Is it possible that when the battery starting to go bad ( although the battery still works, it rleases foul / burning odor? And or if air filter which is right around the battery is not replaced it causes the burning foul bad odor a few minutes after starting up air and lasts for several minutes. Would you start checking the battery --which is confusing since there is no problem starting, or would you start by changing air filter?

Hard to answer from what you are giving us. I had a bad odor like that and a plastic bag was stuck to my exhaust pipe. Look around and under the car for debris. Can you describe odor? Sweet, plastic, burnt wiring etc.
