Hello,
I recently drove a 328 (e46) and found the acceleration pretty much perfect [Auto no less]. Has anyone done a head to head comparison with the 323? Is the additional speed worth the price increase? What other options come standard with the the 328 as opposed to the 323?
Thanks =)

: Hello,
: I recently drove a 328 (e46) and found the acceleration pretty much perfect [Auto no less]. Has anyone done a head to head comparison with the 323? Is the additional speed worth the price increase? What other options come standard with the the 328 as opposed to the 323?
: Thanks =)
I recently convinced a friend to buy a new 3 series...which he is still waiting for! after several test drives, he decided on a 323i with the sport package. After driving both cars i think this is a good decision. From an acceleration standpoint, the 328 is at least an extra $6000 and that buys you a half second from 0 to 60 mph. Barely measurable on the butt dyno. If I sank $6000 into my M3, I am sure I would get at least an extra second taken off my sprint time. My opinion is based on the comparison of two five-speed cars. The 323 may not seem as zippy with an autostick. In addition, the sport pack on the 328 comes with meaty looking 17" wheels. the 323 maxes out at 16". I hope this helps.

I lemented over this forever as many of you have,once I realized it would be the BMW 32Xi over the Audi A4 (more lamenting).
Late December I ordered a 99 323i: silver, in dash CD, 16" premium package. Which worked out to be $29,340.($28,490 after my rebates).
Then I started to work out the numbers after finding that a 328i is the same package wise as a 323i with 16" permium package (I didn't even think to look at first)and the BMWCCA discount showed up ($500 off 323i, $1000 off 328i). And I figured that I will own this car for at least 5 years and changed my order to a 328i silver, CD, sport package. for $34,220. but will be $32,850 after the rebates (BMW's and credit card's). A slim difference between the two.
Goodluck!
William Ow
Santa Cruz, CA
