It appears that all the 740s use the same caps and rotors, whether they are 8V or 16V, Turbo or not.
They look like this:

Now, that cap looks very familiar but the rotor looks a little different. Here's a picture of what they say an M3 rotor should look like. This also matches the ETK diagram:

So, I recall people talking about spring-loaded this, and gapped that. What I want to know is: are these rotors compatible? It looks like they mount in completely different ways. If not, I cannot, for the life of me, find any Volvo rotors that look remotely similar to the BMW one above.
I do notice that they always list another PN for M3 rotors but nobody has a picture of that one.
So, can anyone straighten this out for me?
Thanks,
Jon

Jon,
I`ve also searched and have not found a Volvo rotor that will work.
Therefore, I`m ASSUMING the Volvo cap has the spring loaded contact, since the Volvo rotor has the flat contact in the center.
ALSO, that means the earlier M3 rotor, Bosch #1-234-332-391 SHOULD work. This is the cheaper M3 rotor, $19.28 from www.thepartsbin.com. Also, the Volvo cap, Bosch #1-235-522-382 is $29.22 from The Parts Bin.
I`m going to order both parts to see if they are compatable. I`ll keep you posted.
John

It appears that all the 740s use the same caps and rotors, whether they are 8V or 16V, Turbo or not.
They look like this:

Now, that cap looks very familiar but the rotor looks a little different. Jon,
The Volvo rotor you show in the pic will not work. The pic of the BMW M3 rotor is correct. It bolts to a triagle shape piece that is on the end of the cam. The Volvo one looks like a slip on style. There are three types of caps & rotors out there for our M's. Beru, Bosch, and EVO (bosch I guess) The Beru are very simular to the standard bosch (a bit cheaper and rumored more durable. Bimmerworld shipped me the Beru set. There is also the EVO set which has a different design to the center contact. The cap & rotor set run around $150
HTH, Chris

It appears that all the 740s use the same caps and rotors, whether they are 8V or 16V, Turbo or not.
They look like this:

Now, that cap looks very familiar but the rotor looks a little different. ..that lower pic. It looks like the upper rotors. If I get a chance this weekend I'll pull it and get a part number from it. It appears identical to the M3 one in the picture, except it has a flat contact in the center instead of a hole.
BTW, I did see some bolt on rotors in my search of Volvo parts, but they still look quite different from the M3 rotor.
John
