I have an 88 735i w/approx. 105,000 miles. It has been sitting for a bit while I research and save up the $$$$$$$$$ to do some needed repairs as well as work on my other 2 project cars. Anyone with a lead on a rear exhaust section for a reasonable price please let me know.
Steve O.

Hi
Based in Wilthshire, England. Car is a RHD 1989 735iSE with 152k. Regular user of old 7 series forum.
Options are limited slip, long range fuel, electronic damper control.
Repairs since owned include new radiator, overhauled steering box, new air flow meter, propshaft center bearing. Worn camshaft to be attended to before too much longer.
Best car I have ever owned for the price of a 4 year old econobox.

: First, do you mean that the existing steering box was overhauled or that you installed a rebuilt unit? If you overhauled it, can you tell me what was required?
Second, what are the causes and/or symptoms of your worn camshaft?
Thanks,
Fred

: Lets see what kind of users frequent this board!
Based in Reading Berkshire (not far from you Paul), my car is a 1988 735iSE with 101k miles on the clock. The colour is black and it has 16" Alpina wheels and 225/50x16 tyres on it which I feel are causing more hassle than they are worth.
I to frequent this forum on a regular basis.
(ICQ 1022632)

Hi,
The existing steering box was overhauled. I am not gifted enough mechanically for this type of work, nor do I have the time or facilities (inspection pit/ramps etc) to do it myself.
The steering box was removed by the people I usually get to do the more intensive stuff. It was they that advised me it needed doing in the first place. I got it couriered to a company which rebuilds them and it was returned the next day for refitting. Cost was about 200 (~$300). Charge for removal and refitting was quite trivial in comparison.
The camshaft makes a knocking noise which is quite loud at higher revs. The garage tells me that lobes 1 and 2 are quite badly worn. I suspect this has been caused by incorrect fitting of the oil spray lines, although the car does have 150k+ on it now.

Mike
I have a friend near you who used to have TRX (240/45/415) tyres on his and has just bought new wheels and tyres. He now has the standard 225/60/15 Uniroyals and is glad to be rid of the horrendous road noise and vibration he used to get with the larger tyres. Roadholding is not as good but handling is more importand than grip anyway IMHO.

Purchased in July of 1999 with 61,000 miles. Have put on another 8,000 since then. It is black with the sand color interior. I drive it less since the snow has been falling in Utah. Salt on black does not look very good.
I had new tires installed last month and looked at my pads and rotors, they are going to need replacing soon. Can anyone give me recommendations on where to buy pads and rotors. I will also need a pressure bleeder for the brake fluid. I read the post for building one but I would prefer just purchasing one. The a/c heater controls went out shortly after purchase. Repaired for $700(replace brain and dash control unit) and had inspection II done at that time for $400. Local pioneer dealer repaired CD changer for $115. Replacing phone hand set because key pad doesn't light up. Now everything works. Serviced by garage that services my 87 325i. Previous owners gave the garage Carte Blanche to repair anything necessary. It is used as a daily driver by my wife.

Traded in my 325 about one month ago. Last weekend all of the guages on the bottom of the instrument panel died. From the archives, it sounds like a capacitor problem. Other than that, we are loving the car-and the addional room!

Owned it for 2 years exactly, bought with 65k miles and a nice-ish history.
Basic model (no A/C, cloth seats, no OBC etc). Based and driven in London (just started using it for a 2mile urban school run - yikes) and frequent 100mile motorway trips to the coast.
A little underpowered so the revs need to be taken right up to get max torque when overtaking, but with a lovely sound from the motor...
Last 2 years seen new tyres, some front suspension components, rear subframe bushes (which greatly reduced wandering when windy), the infamous LKM resoldering, drivers door check etc -all routine servicing and major mechanics by BMW dealer (4 plus scheme), I do some electrics and minor mechanics.
Current issues - heater only blows hot when switched to max, need time/money to install new rotors/pads, wiper console worn for which I'm waiting to find a simple 2nd hand part since BMW only sell the whole unit at $240!
Oh yes, and a couple of jealousy stripes.
This forum is invaluable.
Acro_d

Recently bought 90 750iL w/98k. Has 103+k now. Third owner. Correcting minor problems so far. CD changer sent off to manufacturer by dealer $168, small coolant hoses replaced (drivers side just forward of firewall) Have ongoing problem with electric mirrors only going left when adjustment is attempted by thumbswitch. They move correctly when a memory location is used. Already replaced switch. Think I have a small leak in heater core, occasionally fogging windows and smelling of a/f. Overall LOVE the car. Also own 86 325es w/211k that I'll drive till it dies.
