I have 92 735il, and there is not enough fluid in the reservoir. I am reading all the horror stories about what not to use, but the top of my reservoir does not have a label stating what TO use. Any ideas?
By the way, how do you make sure that the fluid in the reservoir is "pumped". Somebody said something about bouncing the rear up and down. Whats with that?

It probably takes Pentosin CHF 7.1 or Pentosin CHF 11s hydraulic fluid my 1989 750IL takes 7.1 your's probably takes the same thing you could call the dealer or a BMW repair shop and ask them what yours takes but i'm pretty shure is 7.1.

The Bentley says consult owners manual AND Pentosin 7.1 up to 08/91 production dates and Pentosin CHF 11S from 09/91 on.
The Pentosin is for cars with rear level control. All others use Dexron III
John 88 735iL (226k)
79 320i (250k)
95 Disco

: I have 92 735il, and there is not enough fluid in the reservoir. Doesn't matter what it takes, synthetic(S) or non as long as you don't mix the two. The 7.1 is cheaper, and if you haven't noticed the retail of $16.50 per can(1 liter), you'll probably want to stick with the cheap stuff. Make sure you're car isn't leaking before buying any. And god forbid you if you think you can put ATF/PS fluid in it. I have self-leveling on my '94 530iT. Bentley says to use Pentosin 7.1, but the PS reservoir cap says OEL 11s.
-Drew Zacharda
'90 535i 5-speed
'94 530iT
: I have 92 735il, and there is not enough fluid in the reservoir. The dealer fills the reservoir after first pumping the brake pedal, with the car off, 10 to 15 times. As far as the correct fuild, if it doesn't specify on the reservoir cap, ask your dealer.
Regards,
Dorian Padilla
90 735iL
