The radio in my '91 735iL has failed. What's the best source for factory replacement unit/repair of old one/best aftermarket to retain factory look?
Thanks

Best look for aftermarket (too me!!) is the Blaupunkt Sydney (cassete) or Toronto (CD).
: The radio in my '91 735iL has failed. What's the best source for factory replacement unit/repair of old one/best aftermarket to retain factory look?
: Thanks

They look a lot better with a replacement like
a clarion or pioneer or kenwood :) junk the
old factory beast, it sounds horrible.
A good stereo shop will fit it in like new and a good head unit will match the amber interior by programming as well.
: Best look for aftermarket (too me!!) is the Blaupunkt Sydney (cassete) or Toronto (CD).
: : The radio in my '91 735iL has failed. I just had my unit replaced with a pioneer and the amber display looks right in the car. Blaupunkt looks OK too.

Hey Roland, what model pioneer did you use? My main concern is to get a radio that looks good in the dash. I saw the Blaupunkt has vario-colour for the model I stated. It gives about 16 different colors. If the pioneer looks better, I may go with it this summer when I go in to change the wiring. Also, what types of adapters were needed for wiring? Did you use the factory amp?
Isiah

Unless you want to spend a lot this unit seems fine with the standard speakers and gives 4x40 watts. I'm in the UK so I don't know if you get the same models. No I didn't use the factory amp, in fact the dealer took hours to sort out the wiring once the factory unit was out! You need to get the speakers (all 10 of them!)wired up correctly so the unit sees the right impedance. The new wiring was connected to the ISO connector then plugged into the unit. Unless you are OK with this get the dealer to sort it. All the best.

The pioneer's have the best remote (it lights up) option, the kenwoods are slick looking too. Don't get a MASK/flipface, they don't last very long due to the motor. You won't go wrong if you purchase a full screen face/flip-down-removable model. It should flip down to let the cd in. Those are mostly the high end nice one's. You might as well
trash the 2" dash speaker, and put a component set up front and replace the rears too. all the speakers are crap.

: : : Hey Roland, what model pioneer did you use? I used and older classic alpine (can't remember the model right now) that has a rotary knob, a cassette and a CD changer. Sent it to California to have the entire matrix display changed to BMW red/orange (for about $100). Changed the tape cover and used the factory one with the roundel symbol. It looks so factory and works like a charm.
