I have a 1990 535i 5-speed with 193,000 miles. I just finished with Inpection II last weekend. It runs great. Engine pulls very strong, but I have 2 problems. Sometimes it won't idle at all- it stalls. Other times the idle rpm is too high- as much as 1500 rpm's. The next problem is the gas consumption. I seem to be down about 10% to 22 mpg. I used to get 24-25 mpg. Any ideas?

You might extensively check for a vacuum leak anywhere in the intake tract.
Andy Peavy
91 535i
email: apeavy@yahoo.com
: I have a 1990 535i 5-speed with 193,000 miles. I average only about 23-25 with my small-6 525i, which until now i thought was pretty good.

A vacuum leak will cause the probelms you describe. With the age of your car, the intake hoses are probably getting brittle. Also tighten all the clamps.
: You might extensively check for a vacuum leak anywhere in the intake tract.
: Andy Peavy
: 91 535i
: email: apeavy@yahoo.com
: : I have a 1990 535i 5-speed with 193,000 miles. hose that attached to the larger hose that fits onto the valve cover. I tugged it a bit as i was removing the valve cover. I can't tell where the other end goes. Any ideas?
: A vacuum leak will cause the probelms you describe. With the age of your car, the intake hoses are probably getting brittle.
