Hi folks,
How do you tell which oil is used in a manual gearbox? I have a '91 535i and would like to determine whether it's gear oil or ATF that goes in there.
Thanks,
Adnan

It depends on the tag on the transmission. According to the tech advisor at Redline here is what was recommended for my '92 535i 5sp:
Green label on trans: MTL
Red label on trans: D4ATF
No label on trans (17mm internal drain plug?): MTL
I must admit I never got under and looked for the label.
Jon Brush
'92 535i 5sp 67.7Kmi
: Hi folks,
: How do you tell which oil is used in a manual gearbox?
