I am trying to decide between a 325 and a 525. I am looking at cars from the early nineties. I am 6 foot. I want a manual. I will drive the car most of the time alone.I like spirited driving but do a lot of freeway driving. How do the cars compare for longevity, reliablity and lack of quality control problems?

The cars are similar mechanically, at least as far as qc,design philosophy, execution, etc. If you like to drive get the 325 w/ a stick. It's a blast! The 5 is fun as well, but the extra weight hurts its performance. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of room in either car. Extra passengers will feel the squeeze in the 325. I've heard to avoid the 91 325. The 3 is smooth and quiet on the freeway compared to most cars.
Lee
'95 525i
'86 325
'74 2002

If its you or two, the 325 if its 4 or more the 525! The 525 5spd is a much more fun car than the auto and the later 94/95 m50tub25 VANOS engine is a better mill than the M20. Put a JC chip in the 525i and it changes the character of the car. IMHO, the 525i is a much nicer cruiser than the 325.
Phil C.
95 525i 5spd. Sharked
