I urgently need the name of a reputable BMW shop in southern Marin County (California) for a pre-purchase inspection of an E34 M5. It has been maintained at Sonnen BMW, so I would rather take it elsewhere. Thanks.

He is also the official tech inspector (last I remember) for the local BMWCCA club driving schools. I had my short-shifter installed in my M3 by him. Fast, reasonable, and a good person to deal with.
Over in the E28 M5 message board a recent discussion took place about reputable BMW development centers in the Bay Area that can perform pre-sale inspections.

How to get there?
1. Go to http://bimmer.org/e28m5/messages/
2. Scroll down to Looking at a few M5s, what should I check in e28?> - Salah 20:46 4/23/2000 (7)
3. Read All of the post in this section
It is not in Marin, but not too far away: Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley, 510-524-6000. They are thorough and costs $120.
