I just want to get your opinions on the
AMG modified C-class.

Heh! Your on the wrong board! (j/k)
I personally like the C55 over the C43. The C43 is just a mildly modified version of the standard 4.3 motor.
Also there is a new C class coming out soon. They are supposed to be coming out with a 3.2V6 supercharger version as the new AMG C class. It will have more power than the current C43.
The main point that you will hear here is that its automatic. It really depends on how you drive and the conditions you normally drive in.
Good luck with your decision.
Benz can keep that car for $55,000-and I love MBs (C stands for Cheap Class). Its not that fast, and like Jesse said no Stick available (should at least be offered along side the automatic). I do like the Monoblock wheels on it though. Save yourself $16,000 and get and Audi S4. Just my .02cents.
JG
00 Mcoupe
00 MB S500

of the least-biased people on this board. Now it's time to get an opinion from a biased one. The C43 is good for a slush box, but the E55 doesn't cost a whole lot more, has a lot more cachet, and looks a whole hell of a lot better. If it's cost effectiveness you're after, you should take a look at an S4, as JG suggested, or an Audi A6 2.7T (only $1000 more than an S4, with similar performance) if space is an issue. If you want to tune your car, pick up a slightly used A4 1.8T Quattro and have a field day. Get a PES supercharger (0-60 in 5.2 sec in a Passat), some H&R coilovers from TAP, and get the race-spec brakes from Vortrag. You won't have the razor's edge reflexes and natural-born kller balance of an M3, but you'll beat 'em on straights, and they won't pull too far away from you in turns. That's just my opinion; I could be wrong...

$ and can wait a year NT rickp

E55 is considerable more expensive than the C43. If your price range is akin to the C43 look at the Audi S4 or the new M3. If you have an extra 20k then look at the E55 and M5.

: of the least-biased people on this board. Now it's time to get an opinion from a biased one. For some reason, I was looking at the wrong price. How do you like yours, BTW?

Well ... naturally I love it!!!
It has great speed and handling and is great for everyday use.
I'm thinking of the upcoming M6 for a weekend car or if a couple of my commission checks come in like I plan ... I'll get the new Mercedes SLK which is coming in 2003.

I can't even THINK about buying a $300,000 (according to new R&T) car. Best of luck.
