Because you can't put an M3 sideways if it has DSC. An M3 driver is more likely to want to put car sideways than an M5 driver. This is the reason given by the M-brand manager @ BMWNA. I think it's a good idea. (Glad my 328i doesn't have DSC.)

On 328Ci I have to push a button every time I start the car, and then there is a nasty warning light in the middle of the dash. Maybe DSC makes sense in the snow, but it seems far to sensitive and kicks in long before car is in any danger.<p>Greg<br>00 328Ci<br></i>
