Welp, I went out and done it. I'll be buying a Honda (gasp!) S2000 this friday as an interim car until the M3 comes. The deal was just too good to pass up, and it allows me to be more flexible with my M3 on order.
Sure it may not be nearly as nice, not have as many gadgets, not have that incredible torquey I-6 engine mated to a wonderful 6-spd. But the S2k will at least keep the rain of my head this winter and provide some fun in the sun as well. Should be a fun track toy ta boot.
I'll still get the M3 and be a presence here, but even I have to admit, BMW dropped the ball on this one. My 5mo wait after cancelling my 330 order has recently ballooned into a 10mo wait and nothing, still nothing... is concrete. <sigh> I don't mind the delays as much as just not knowing what it happening.
-loki (#3) and a soon to be owner of a silver/red S2k
p.s. Heck, Animboy offered to trade with his M Coupe every now and then for the S2k, with an offer like that, how could I refuse??? ;)

Nice car. Can't blame you. Too many different stories about delays. Unfortunately they do not care. Enjoy your redline.

Welp, I went out and done it. I'll be buying a Honda (gasp!) Loki,
I share your sentiments exactly. I have
grown incredibly tired of waiting, wondering
whether I am getting a fair shake on the
waiting list and the money is buring a
hole in my pocket. Can you give me some
details on the deal? I think you are
in the bay are, correct?
Later,
Steve

As that great Porsche add says, "absolutely wrong for so many people." The S2K would NOT be my choice for a winter car. The stock S02s suck big *** when cold. Even worse when wet. Bad enough to prompt many a hydroplane and spin out story on our web board. That coupled with a hugely noisy interior when the top is up (not creeks, but just engine, differential, gear, and clutch noise) should make you think twice and make sure the S2K is a car for you. Absolutely be sure you test drive the car w/the top up before you sign on the dotted line.
Now, on to the good stuff. The S2K is without a doubt the most fun car to drive I've ever owned, edging out the likes of 99 C5 convertibles and E36 M3s.

The ICWALFBMWTGIST (I-can't-wait-any-longer-for-BMW-to-get-its-****-together) Club.
I'm super happy that I got an M Coupe to help me with the wait - haven't regreted it for a second. I'm just glad I didn't wait as long as you did :) Five wonderful months of ownership and I just hit 12,000 miles tonight! There was one other car that I was thinking about getting before I got my M, and the pictured car is exactly it.
I'll e-mail you tomorrow with a contract outlining the details of our car swap program ;) There's a Thunder Hill NASA track day on the 3rd of December...hmmmm.......
Kevin
'00 M Coupe (slightly jealous)
Dave,
Thanks for the words of wisdom... but I'm going to take a dive no matter what. As for the sounds, since I ride motorcycles (V-twins at that), it gives me an acute ear to the symphony that comes out of engines. Call me wierd but I love the sound of the dry clutch I had on the Ducati 916 and chains and cams on my current RC-51.
Now, if it's louder than 160mph winds buffetting around a helmet, I might be concerned, but from what it sounds like, I'm in for a treat. ;)
cheers,
-loki

As that great Porsche add says, "absolutely wrong for so many people."
Hi Steve,
It's good to hear other people are in the same boat and share my POV. I'm glad most of us are car enthusiasts before they are bimmer loyalist. Me, I love cars and vehicles of any nature. Sometimes they don't even have to perform like a supercar for me to appreciate them.
Anyways, I digress. The S2k I'm buying I found on the net. $30k w/800miles on the clock. I am located in the Bay Area but will be travelling out-of-state to pick the car up and blast home in a 13hr drive... don't worry, I'll try to hit some twisties on the way home and give the engine some proper break-in revs. ;)
Cheers

Loki,
I share your sentiments exactly. LOL,
Personally I'm all up for exhange program, but give me a few weeks at least to break the umbilical cord. ;)
I don't think I'll be ready for a trackday SO soon, but are there still open spots? I know someone who might be interested in taking his modded GSX on the track. Let me know if there's a website or a list with that information and the cost for the trackday.
See ya on the streets!
-loki

MTM sus tuned and soon to be chipped...good for 306hp and 370 lbs 'o' T. Conservative numbers too. :) makes the M3 wait much more bearable. BMW you still screwed up, and I agree, more CONCRETE information would be nice.

I know where you are coming from. When I put my deposit down way back in 1925 I was to be driving the M3 in october or november. Well they both have passed, and my sales rep claims to know nothing about when the car is ariving. I am very seriously thinking about a 540i or a CLK 430. Both are fast (2 seconds makes no difference to me) and torquey. The CLK looks fantastic, but Mercedes quality has really suffered in recent years, so perhaps the 540i....Not quite sure yet. All I know is M3 is creeping out of the picture.
dadbeh
I know how you feel, last march I bought a 98M3 (still kept my waiting list spot) which I'm now attempting to sell, my winter project is modifying my Blazer to become a pseudo-Typhoon (vortech + suspension + lots of other goodies....), its not the best, but it should kick ***.
I just wish BMW would get it in gear, if they don't watch it I'll have another Duc an S4 and who knows what else soon....after all, money needs to be spent
-m

Welp, I went out and done it. Oddly, I have both a red S2000 and a black Typhoon, which people have mentioned in this thread.
I am not 100% on board to sell them both to get the M3 though.?
Almost sounds goofy, but I am debating selling the typhoon to get a turbo impreza when they come out.?
Scot

I'm sure that there are still spots available. Go to http://nasaproracing.com/regions/norcal/schedule.htm and check out the HPDE schedule. Its $149/day including instruction and four 20 minute track sessions. Its a total blast and I reccomend it to anybody out there who's been thinking about taking their drving skills to the next level.
Cheers,
Kevin
'00 M Coupe

Where was this picture taken? It looks like the town of Vence in the South of France. Does anyone know? I grew up there...
