My '91 E34 M5 with 70K miles doesn't seem to be leaking an oil, and consumption is about a quart every 1600 miles. Is this normal? What do others have for oil consumption?
Keith

Guys,
Sounds kinda fishy to me. I have an oil consumption problem too on my 92 E34 M5 and I have been taking it apart to find the problem. Broken ring in #6 has scratched the cylinder wall(see link). I wouldn't think any substantial oil consumption is normal.
FYI, my '93 Formula has 90k on it and doesn't use a drop. It has been run hard all it's life too. :-)
E.
M5 link: http://www.austintx.net/users/echristie/M5.htm

My 91 M5 is also using approximately 2 to 3 litres of oil every 5000 km. My mechanic isn't overly concerned.
Vico
