...all coated with goop and still wearing her protecting cover my baby has been seen sitting lonely in the dealers parking lot. A quick telephone call later and she's ready for delivery on Friday (3 more days of hell!).
Buuuut, that was the good news. The bad news is I didn't get the Beige top that I wanted. Apperantly someone at my company (including myself!) overlooked a small sentence, in what we thought was an insignificant document, that stated the top was ordered in Black. Why the leasing company ordered in Black in the first place is a mystery but due to that document there is nothing I can due. Hey Carter, do you ever sleep?
As ar as I know the AM tuning steps are different (Help here me out Alan, what concensis(sp) did we reach). I believe there is no prob with the FM tuning being that it should tune in steps of 1(I can tell you for sure on Friday). The freqs' are the same (80 somthing to 107 somthing). The only problem I can forsee is RDS. I am not sure if the US RDS uses the same freqs' as the EU RDS.
To tell you the truth I am not is the Radio is worth it. It costs about $750 (DM1350.00) and for thart money you can get a pretty good Blaupunkt or Alpine.
Matt F. (Z-Less till Friday)

The only problem I can forsee is RDS. Like Matt said, the FM goes in steps of .1 (101.1, 101.2, 101.3) instead of steps of .2 like here, so there's no problem tuning FM stations. However, AM goes in different steps so you can't get all AM stations. The RDS also works although very few stations seem to support it in the U.S.
The only thing I'm not sure about the Z3 is whether or not the CD head unit would be plug-compatible with the U.S. Z3s. If it wasn't wired to mate up with the U.S. amplifier, you might as well buy an aftermarket unit if you're going to have to munch wires anyway.

--Alan

Hi Matt,
First let me say "Congratulations!" I know it has been a long time for you to wait for the Z but I assure you the anxiety will all melt away in the first minute you are behind the wheel and you will realize it was all worth the wait.
In the cobwebs of my old brain I seem to recall a post to one of the boards that indicated that the RDS radio has a switch on the back to change the AM section tuning steps so that the radio becomes U.S. compatible. I know you don't ever plan to ship the 2.8 back to the U.S. but there are a lot of folks here who would love to have the in-dash CD heat unit that you are getting if we could use it here. Please do a little research for the gang here and we will elevate you to "hero" status.
Take Care and Enjoy the Z.
Fred Meloan

Anyone got a part number on the M wheel? Seems it will fit a 2.8, and the three spoke looks alot better than the one installed now.

I wonder why BMWNA doesn't allow us to order the M suspension for 1.9s and 2.8s here. Any comments?

best,
Rich

I've heard you can get the M steering wheel on the 2.8, at least in Europe you can.
I believe the insertion and attachment points on the M Roadster's suspension are different than those on the 1.9 and 2.8. You may be able to get the M's suspension modified to fit the 2.8 but definitely not the 1.9. The rear wheel tracks are completely different on the 1.9 from the 2.8 (the rear end of the 2.8 is more closely related to that of the M Roadster).
I do recall that there was an M-Technic suspension available from BMW as an option for the 1.9 but I'm not quite sure. Whether it can be installed by the dealer after the fact you'll have check.
Grif

Maybe I can ask the dealer to just throw that option code number on with the rest of them and hopefully it'll be built with it. Do you think this would work or would they have to speak to a factory manager or something... (I love the M steering wheel..and the gray/black M roadster seats...maybe I can get that as the sport seats in the 2.8 too). Maybe even Cosmos Black paint. Who knows.
MW
