There's a 6" deep, roughly triangular, black plastic compartment in the floor at the rear drivers' side of my 1.9l Z3. That is, it starts at carpet floor level, and goes down from there. It looks like something is meant to go in there, but I've no idea what.
Anyone know the answer?
Thanks,
Greg in Sydney

According to the rep who delivered my Z, the compartment is for storing the plastic bag provided for storage of tires in the event of a flat. Plausible..... maybe
anyway with the trunk organizer it has become another little cubbyhole to transport small items in the trunk (occassionally)

: There's a 6" deep, roughly triangular, black plastic compartment in the floor at the rear drivers' side of my 1.9l Z3. I have no friggin' idea. But when I picked up my new Z3 2.8 There was a bottle of CHAMPAGNE in that Black triangular compartment in the trunk. I thought that was a standard equipment!!!
John
97 2.8 Boston green/tan/tan
H/K, chrome roadster rear license plate, chrome tail pipes and chrome interior package.

I use the compartment you mentioned for cleaning supplies. But how about the narrow compartment long the back of the car? You know, just as you open the trunk along the bottom...
It has a couple of rubber traps.
Any thoughts?

I'd suppose that location was where they had to put the crank...so why not make a cubby hole out of it? I line the bottom of mine with a large plastic bag (useful as an emergency poncho, or effective suffocation device for the carjacker you've pummeled) and also put in a terry-cloth hand-towel. This way, if I did fill it with a bottle of MadDog 20/20, Thunderbird, or a 40oz Shiner, I'd wrap it with the towel to prevent any glass-to-plastic rattling.
I suppose now someone's gonna ask why the other side has a ramped declining indent. :)

wonderin' why wine doesn't come in six-packs with pull-tabs,
Carter
'96½ Z3 _7_7_7_7
—roadster—
I have one I picked up in Germany a few years ago, had to take it out of the cover and the rubber feet still stick out!
PS Alan tried the recommended triangle (from BMW) and it doesn't fit either.
Stick a small unbrella in there, that does fit.
