This article shows how to set up RCA inputs so that an MP3 player or any other audio device with RCA outputs can be channeled to a stock BMW system. The article is about an installation in an E46, but it should be able to be applied to other models as well.

Wow! He beat me to that solution. I have been following the X5 board for some time and came up with that same solution in January of this year, but do not even have a BMW to try it on.

Recently, I went to that site again checking it out and now they have that little AUX icon next to the picture of the adapter, and clicking on it shows a message saying that this functionality won't work unless an aftermarket CD changer is connected. Hopefully, they didn't somehow change that adapter after my email.
