I've always wanted to build one. Seen/driven them and fell in love with it. Any experience with long term M3 engine and the turbo effects? I ask this because the stock motor was not setup for boost. Turbo kits recommend lowering CR by a thicker head gasket. I have issues with this quick fix of lower CR. How willt eh rods hold up?

Is the M3 bottom end forged components?

Anything else?

Thanks!

My engine Guru has asked me to leave the Intercooler off my 3.5 Turbo project due to his swirl porting, see messages on this forum. Claims no ping in 12 to 1 compression engine and 91 octane in circle car being pounded hard.

I am going to try it. But intercooler is in waiting.

No added cost to not doing something.

Most BMW engines are actually lower in compression than the advertised specification.

My 3.5 m30 is 7.8 to 1 but book says 8 to 1.

BMP sells a thicker head gasket but it is also a cutter ring so it cuts a ring in the head. May want to avoid that.

See my rantings on detonations.

With the "M" any torgue gained would be in the higher RPM so you may want to consider a lower gear to compensate.

No matter what you do get the Cartech FMU 2027. Makes that fuel pressure rise to meet the boosted needs. It parasites off the OE regulator and mounts in the return to tank line. See my link.

There was a kit on that big auction site, E-Bxx.

One more toy. It was only $670 so far needs water pump and trip to KC. Great parts for my e21 2 liter.

Now I have to ride on a bus for 14 hours to get it.

Great stories when I get older than I am now.
I sure hope I get older.

This is mickey mouse. Do it right(pistons) or run less boost. If I remember right the rods are forged in the M50 engine.
