Should I buff out with a slightly rough compound or use 1000 grit paper then buff out with polishing compound. Obviously I do not want to disturbe the clear coated paint. Are there any solvants out there that can do the job? Thanks

This is going to be pretty tough, especially if they're painted on. Are they painted on over the clear?

Solvents probably won't get the job done (at least not without ruining more of your paint than you'd probably desire), 1000 grit might be a little harsh (plus you'd want to clear over the stripes when done).

A little more info/some pics might help, but I think it's not going to be an easy wipe on/wipe off job.

over Cosmos Black. The ///M stirping was done by the previous owner and looks good but not for me so I am not sure if I should get rid of them. I obviously do not want to disturb the paint if I can help it. Maybe this would be a job for a specialist.
