Like Many other posters on this board, I had my deposit in for over a year. The f-type was our dream car. But if you can believe the September issue of Road & Track, our dream car was about to become a nightmare.
"Jaguar management gave in to what it perceived was overwhelming customer demand and said that the F-Type would be built. What they didn't admit was that the F-Type concept was unbuildable - but they committed themselves to a smaller 2-seater. The engineers got to work, on a time scale that was of necessity extended, and then extended it further by rejecting the original idea of a front-engine car similar to the concept, and going for a mid-engine layout.
Photos are of the original concept and the mid-engine version that I will dub "The Monster" The caption reads,
"The Jaguar F-Type was originally conceived as a front-engine sports car. The top photo shows what happened when engineers tried to make it a mid-engine design."

I never thought I'd say this but maybe Ford was right stopping production of what went from my dream car to The Monster.

Future F-type: fabulously fruitless failure, flaunting foul-fetid frumpy features, far-flung from formidable foreign finesse. Facetious, freakish Ford Fiero-floorshow foisted flacidly for frustrated, furious, fragmented former fans.

Sir William must be spinning at 5500 rpm in his grave.
