What is the best way to dust a car? Would a flanel rag just draged over it work?

It all depends on the car, the technique and your tolerance for scratches/spiderwebbing/etc.

A "real" California Car Duster, if used properly will probably offer the safest dusting results, with the least amount of scratching. However, if the car is really dusty, I'd recommend a wash rather than a dusting.

I use a California Car Duster, a car cover and a few really plush microfiber towels w/Quick Detailer to cut down on excessive washes & dust problems.
