I have just taken delivery of a 2002 330Ci - it has the single in dash CD player with HK. I was thinking of adding a CD changer then I heard about MP3 players with a hard drive so I can basically rip all my CD's (about 500 or so) and load them onto the hard drive in the unit. OK that's the end of my knowledge.

The questions I have is:
- what unit would you recommend?
- can I mouth this in the trunk or under the seat or something and wire this into the standard in-dash CD player?
- will the steering wheel controls work?

the car is a 330 Ci with sports but not Premium package and no Nav.

Thanks for your advice.

If you buy an Alpine CHA-S634 you will be able to mount it in the trunk using the factory bracket and use the stock head unit to control it. The changer has an MP3 decoder and will play them from CD-R/RW's.

I'm not aware of a hard drive MP3 player than can be easily integrated into the factory radio. But am no means an expert on this.

I would think that while capacity is great, the problem really becomes navigation. Even with the Alpine unit, I find that searching tracks is a real pain.

It is a hard drive based MP3 player that integrates with BMW head unit. A little pricey tho. My order is on the way, i hope.

I have a 740, btw. The Phatbox has been tested to work with the 3,5, X5 and Z3.
