I'm shopping for a replacement for my 99 540iT and have some questions about the configurations of the 97-99 m3s... If you have the time to help me get informed on this I'd be much obliged.

I noticed on bmw's site that there is an option on 97 bmws called Luxury package... was this only 1 year and did all the individual options in that package still become available in following years?

If a car has mtech contour wheels does it mean it has the luxury package? What is the difference in the rocker panels and spoiler than non-luxury M3's? I can't find the difference.

I'm looking for a Blue Sedan (or White, Silver) and only seem to find gray or black leather. Were there other choices in those external colors? Any website that shows the color choices of interior for old models? I drove a 99 red M3 and it had wonderful brown bomber-jacket textured leather...what is that called and is that available in Blue, White, or Silver?

Were there any significant advancements or benefits in 99, 98 models over 97?

I thought the sunroof was standard on e36's, is it really an option on these M3's and do any of them have a glass moonroof?

Is fold down rear seats an option on both sedan and coupe?

I'm looking on Autotrader and Roundel, is there anywhere else people suggest I search?

Why is Blue so hard to find!?

Many thanks!

had a 94 325 before the 540 and I miss it.

The leather you are looking for does come in some of the white M3's. There are links from the FAQ to good site that will have more detailed info on that (and everything else). Main dif. '97-99 that I am aware of was the '99 picked up a new steering wheel design. Also, 99 had no 4-door model. Sunroofs aren't standard on ANY 3 series (even E46) - and no such thing as a factory glass moonroof on E36. has great classifieds - bought my M3 and sold my 325i there. Good luck!

The lux/sport differences are subtle. The front air dam of a lux pkg M3 has 2 horizontal slats across the bottom portion, lux does not have the bottom black lip extension, and the side skirts are more conservative. I think wood interior trim is only available in lux pkg, but not sure. You'll just have to look up a few pix to tell the difference.
That nice mottled brown interior is Magma, and is avaiable with most exterior colors, for some reason, it's a rare find. There are basically no major advancements over the 97 model, save side air bags, rear head rests, and 3-spoke steering wheel in 98+ cars.
I looked for over a year for my 98 M3 sedan, Estoril blue/light gray, 5sp. It's an absolutely beautiful color, which may explain why there aren't many owners willing to part with them.
I found mine on

Good luck (color combos +)
