I took a 82' 911 SC 3.0 for a spin today, and i'm thinking about buying one.
I feel & hear scraping sound when downshifting to 1:st gear when car is
roling. Sound gets gradually weaker the slower i drive.
It doesn't scrap 4 of 5 times when shifting to 1:st while
standing still ... altough it happends.

All this points to worn 1:st gear synchro (?) ...car has almost 200 000 km on
clock. How bad is this and how complicated/expensive operation is it to
change 1:st synchro....is it better to do complete gearbox restoration?

Should i pass?

Thanx a zillion!

rebuilds run between $1800 and $2800 depending on how much needs to be replaced whether you also need a clutch, etc.

You may be better off buying a used tranny that's already been rebuilt and swap them. you can still sell your old worn tranny for a decent amount.
