I placed my M3 Coupe order from Momentum BMW in Houston in October of last year. They originally predicted a 10 to 12 month wait. Today they call me to offer a M3 Coupe in two weeks at $5,000 over MSRP. I asked how long the list was and they said 40 names were in front of me. They said they were only getting one Coupe per month and that they expected production to significantly increase (get 4 Coupe per month) in the Fall of this year. Momemntum is one the top volume dealers in the country.

I do not like the dealers playing dialing for dollars. With so many names, one would think they would simply go down the list at MSRP. It is hard to tell what in going on.

BTW, I have a 2003 CLK 500 on order, it may arrive sooner!

M-B is phasing out the 4.3L V8. I think both for cost-cutting and because it no longer competes with competitor's V8s. The ML500 replaces the ML430 this summer. For the '03 model year, the E500 and CLK500 will replace the E430 and CLK430 and the S430 will be dropped. Power is bumped up from 300hp to 320hp for '03.

Also, the 5.5L engine is being phased out, too. It will be replaced by either a supercharged 5.0L or supercharged 5.5L in '03. Something between 420hp and 450hp. Again, to allow them to compete in the horsepower wars (think new M5).

Looks like a Chysler Sebring...I guess MB is going for a family resemblance??? The one thing I really loved about my CLK was that it is truly a beautiful car to look at!!! The new one is NO such beast and very disappointing IMHO.

The photos I've seen of the '03 CLK were ugly. Of course, so far, every pic I've seen with either partially disguised or a computer photochop of a W203 C-class, or W208 CLK.

Maybe M-B designers saw an early prototype of the new 7-series and decided to make the new CLK just as "pretty." :-)

"Global Luxury Car Market Collapses due to everyone keeping their old ones since the new stuff is just sooo darn UGLY".

It does seem like car makers are on a mission to be "different" in their styling no matter how hideous the result. I present the new BMW 7-series, the Lexus SC430, and the next MB CLK as examples...

I plan to be one of the consumers who hunkers down with his 2002 M3 and waits till the bad-styling fever passes.

Perhaps this is some strange side cultural side affect of kids who put chunks of scrap metal through various body parts and their faces as "fashion" now coming of age and having buying power? Yikes!
