Dirkies comments below, regarding the speed limiter being a very discreet fuel shortage or something - brings me to mention the rev limiters.

The 1st gear limiter in the M3 is quite hard, however fortunately doesn't have the soft M5 limiter (around 6500 rpms) in first then the hard limiter (and hard limiters in 2nd and 3rd). The subsequent limiters in 2nd and 3rd, in the M3, are very light indeed - you have got to keep your eyes on the rev gauge when changing (albeit briefly), otherwise you barely feel the limiter.

Just an observarion.
