Well, I was expecting the ticking noise from my engine to be "just" a maladjusted/faulty tappet.

I've just today found out that the part of the camshaft looking after the exhaust valves on cylinder no. 6 has been without lubrication and is now worn. New camshaft on backorder (surprise, surprise) and due in 7-10 working days (!!!!!!!!!). They still don't know what caused the oil starvation so there could me more parts and more waiting involved. Gulp.

This means my car won't be able to be displayed at the Silverstone Festival of Speed this weekend and, worst of all, I'll have to drive this bloody Astra for another two weeks.

Someone cheer me up ... please ...

Ian.

FatPimp told me that's how you look every day.

Just kidding. ;-)

Sorry to see you didn't make it into Loki FAQ site. Maybe he could at least have a question: what's a SAF and how do I avoid one?

Ok, just more kidding. Now I'll find someone else to pick on.

If my turn would just come up to order my new M3, I wouldn't have these neuroses.

that those "muscles" you have are nothing more than a rubber inflatable suit that you wear around to try to impress people. Can you comment on this?

I've also heard from a reliable source high up in RoadFlyNA that the stone walks that Stone makes arent for peaceful jaunts through the garden but rather are for covering remains of thousands of slain hamsters that he kills every year so that he can support your wig fetish. I hear you like like "hamster felt" wigs, boxers, and "manzierres."

What's the REAl story, eh SAF???

I remember seeing a picture on the Internet of some guy with a 2" diameter clear plastic tube shoved up his a$$. On the other end, his "partner" was dangling a hamster by its tail about to drop it down the tube.

If only that poor hamster knew what he was about to get into. There are some sick people in this world bro. If I choose to dress as a pimp on Halloween, that's my business, but it's nothing compared to what these guys were doing for kicks!

Think that's sick? I've seen worse! ;)

...but I'd have to check my credit card bill to see when the deposit was posted. It was about 2 or 3 months prior to that date, because the sales guy I first dealt with left the company and never actually hit my card with the deposit. The next salesman I dealt with was straight enough to keep me in the same wait slot (#8) and post the deposit.

BTW, thanks for your sense of humor and your enjoyable posts.

You reminded me of this story. Every time I hear this I laugh hysterically. Damn funny stuff! ;-)

No M3's are handled in South Africa.

All M3 engines come from Munich, and all cars are assembled in Regensburg.

different assembly locations.

At least from a US import perspective, the only thing being made in SA appears to be a subset of the 325 family. I imagine some other variants are made for other markets.

In the US, we're getting 325's from both Germany and South Africa, and I've not heard much in the way of people being able to tell them apart based on quality - so if there is a difference, it may be rather small.

You are still doing ok if they can get the parts from germany in 7-10 days. I waited much longer on the upper control arms for my car

I'm curious what they expect to accomplish by putting in a new camshaft without knowing what happened with the lubricant? And what about the cam followers? Surely anything in contact with the dry cam would be suspect to damage as well?

I can't believe you're stuck in an astra.. that sucks.

Oh yeah, I was supposed to cheer you up. Well, I'm sure you'll be back on the road long before I even get an allocation. How's that?

Ouch, that stinks... Just keep getting on them to expidite (sp?) the parts. Dont stop until you get to someone who has the power to say "YES" I never accept a "NO" from someone who can not say "YES"... Hang in there... =(
