I'm a new 81 911SC owner. The transmission needs a rebuild. Seems to be the synchros in the low gears but I'd like to change the gearing while doing the rebuild. To save money (and afford the new gears) I'm considering doing the rebuild myself.
Anyone have succuss or horror stories to share?. It will help with the decision whether I tackle this work myself or not. I've read conflicting accounts between having a pro do it (because of the specialty tools/fixtures required) to it being a fairly straight forward job that can be done my an owner.

Your opinions and experiences would be greatly appreciated.
