Your dealer is misinformed at best.

Just today, I jgot e-mail from BMWNA, stating that SMG owners will not be charged for PDC.

Have your dealer call 1-800-831-1117. If he insists, make him put the $350 charge on the invoice and fax that to BMWNA.

Many of us have gotten written confirmation that the mandatory PDC fiasco is being handled by BMWNA so that at least it does not cost us extra for an option we did not order.

The claim is that BMWAG forced the PDC on all SMG cars, and BMWNA is basically going to eat the cost of the extra PDC. I commend them for this decision.

We have several letters from BMWNA that are clear on this point. Here's mine:

============

From: BMW.Assistance@bmwna.com

I'm with BMW of North America, LLC. I work with Tom Salkowsky who asked
that I speak with you regarding your message to him.

You've written of your concern that the new M3 will automatically have PDC
when SMG is ordered. This decision was made by senior-level management
overseas.

You tell us, "I am also informed that I will have the honor of paying for
this option that I did not order." Fortunately, that is not the case.

Although PDC is normally a $350 option, I am pleased to say there will be no
increase from the original price for SMG alone. I hope it helps to know
this.

We appreciate hearing your views. Stay in touch with us either through
www.bmwusa.com or by calling 1-800-831-1117.

Thank you for choosing BMW.

Emily Hamilton

Although folks from this board detected the problem and raised a fuss, I have to credit BMWNA for doing the right thing here, much as it pains me to compliment them :)

There is a fairly large group of customer service folks at BMWNA, several of whom appear to be able to don the official-spokesbabe persona of Emily.

However, one time I called BMW NA and I asked for Emily and I actually got her voice mail wth a recording of her voice. She sounded pretty human on the voice mail. If I ever get to actually talk to her, I will confirm her humanity.

Just because someone has voiceMail or answers merrily with "Emily Hamilton, how may I help you?" does not necessarily mean that this person exists and has a social security number :)

Maybe there is a real Emily, and also some of her staff use the same persona. But a lot of "her" postings and writings involve a great deal of boiler-plate text and cut-and paste activity...
