This might interest you. Saw it on 996 Board.

Have any of you had the chance to see who´s the fastest? 996 or M3?

Has anybody else tried the superchip mentioned in the post for the m3. If so any difference noted?

I did a 3,2,1, with a 996 cabrio (top up) from about 60 mph up to 120. It was very close... I may have pulled half a car length if that, before we had to slow. My SMG is completely stock, his 996 has an exhaust system and I'm not sure what else. At the time, my car was just past break-in and I think I could do better now.

One thing you have to remember is the m3 has usuable rear seats and a normal sized trunk. With my 993 if I go for a weekend with the wife a dog and luggage the car is stuffed to the gills.

Dinan and JimC can't get any more HP out the M3. So why think Superchips can.

Suspension mods make handling not acceleration and speed. Lowering can help at higher speeds.

The 996 had exhaust and intake mods, which do make HP.

And $20K less. A lot of money for slightly better interior and shifter. And if you get SMG that becomes a non-event. Heck, you can almost buy a WRX for fun with the difference. :)
