I have roughly 2000km on my 02 M3 and am hearing an odd noise that appears to be coming from the rear differential when pressing the clutch. This only occurs at certain times and sounds mechanical. Is this the so called clunk? Also BMW has told me that there is a new differential fluid coming out that is suppossed to cure this problem. Does anyone have any information on that?

Not heard about new diff fluid being cure for "clunk"-interesting thought.
When engine cold, I hear ringing, whirling noise when shifting into 3rd, persists at high rpm, disappearars when clutch disengaged after a few seconds, reappears if revs up to 5k again, disappears when put into neutral, reappears if shift into 2nd,3rd,4th and increase revs to 5k.
Problem completely goes away when engine at 190-200 degrees oil temp. Consistently present when cold. Started at about 1000 miles, now have 3000 miles. Synchro related? Exhaust? Feel it is tranny related. Someone else must have similar problem. Please respond.
