You can adjust the Nav lady volume yourself from the maint screen on the Nav system (look in FAQ for little trick of powering up, holding SEL button, hitting FM, and getting into screen).

There are several adjustments in there. One is for the speed-sensitive radio volume. Another appears to adjust the actual speaking level of the Nav lady (and she defaults to shouting for most of us). Be advised that the Nav volume on the main screen - the one you normally can see and play with does not make her louder or softer, it actually adjusts how much the radio gets muted when she goes to speak.

If you can't hear her over the radio, turn up the main menu "Nav volume" to get the radio music turned down to taste, and then raise or lower her voice with the secret maint menu.

If you can't hear her when the radio is turned off, I have no clue - we've not figured out how to adjust her behavior in that scenario.

BMW Audio engineers do not appear to be the brightest in terms of human factors - what with the HK rattles, overly aggressive speed sensitive volume settings, shouting Nav lady, and a Nav volume feature which doesn't change how loud the Nav lady is at all - Germans - what ya gonna do with them?
