The rare Alcantara goat, the only naturally occurring plaid animal in nature, and one of the most flatulent, is found only the foothills surrounding the Alcantara Valley in Sicily. There, in the warm Sicilian sunshine, the Alcantara goats fine microfiber fleece grows to elegent perfection. Once exclsively used in garments worn by mafia dons, and other wealthy local residents, Alcantara fabric has now found a broader market in costly automobiles. Mostly seen in the commonly seen cheesy plaid pattern, a few rare Alcatara mutations have been know to have solid coloring. Some biologist speculate that the solid grey Alcantara has developed as response to the decline in natural predators, but other feel they simply posess a superior sense of style.

In recent years some residents of Mojo Alcantara, the largest village in the area, have proposed that in addition to the annual Peach festival, the community also have an Alcantara goat festival. However, there has been a backlash by the local cattle growers, jealous of the market share lost by leather to Alcantara fabric, and they have so far managed to block plans to hold the festival. There is a third group that is also opposed to the festival that maintains the smell of the Alcantara goat is disgusting, and that they smell just like a microfiber raincoat worn by a fat woman that has dined heavily on pepperoni sausage, raw cabbage, deviled eggs and beer on a hot day in July.

This last group may be in response to a local legend that says the small volcanic crater near Mojo Alcantra, with it's huge pile of ashes, burnt earth and vagely sulfur smell, was created in Ancient times by giant Alcantara that once roamed the area. Legend has it that these giant animals were even more flatulent than their modern decendents, and that the crater developed where the Alcantaras congregated after dining heavily on the common in ancient times skunk cabbage.
