Please follow the link below to see my Audio installation along with instructions on how I did it. I hope it is of use to anyone who wants to upgrade the audio system on the E46. This will work for convertibles as well as coupes with a few minor differences.

have you had any problems with the amp overheating in that location? I had a PG amp that ran VERY hot and overheated after 10 mins of use at low ohms when it was in that area. It gets really hot from the muffler. Or maybe the cab is different? anyway awesome job!<br>

What about the Utopias, would they fit in the front?

after doing lots of research I could not find one this is why I wrote one myself. I even struggled to find the location of the factory amp in a convertible because few people gave me a straight answer.

you can do some modification to the door and fit a 165 in there if you want but you need to shave the door panel to the thinest size and it will take some time and patience to do but I would say that it is possible. as for the rear panel I will tell you that probably not the MB quarts are thinner then the focals and they didn't fit when installed from the inside and almost did not fit when installed on the outside.

Carlos,

That was completely awesome - great job on this upgrade. You have done a great service to those with a Cab that wondered how to upgrade their cars. The attention to detail, the quality of the work, and the pictures in your post were incredibly clear.

Congrats on a job well done and thanks much for sharing with all of use since many wondered how to upgrade Cabs !!!

Lastly, thank you for your comments regarding my own post - I am very happy that I was able to help your own upgrade :-)
