Quick question if m/// is not broken in properly dose that effect oil comsumption the all reason i ask is that my car is 02 cab with 7k miles & just 1yr old
but has taken 4qt of oil already and looks like it needs another qt which will be 5qt in just 7k miles & OBC indicates svc in 1575 for oil are these sign of engine failure?

consumption and failures. There seems to be a wide disparity in oil use (mine's used only about 1 liter in 16k), but I don't know that anyone has tied it to break-in procedure or engine failures.

oil usage is determined by how the motor was broken in - the fact that there is such variability in usage is odd. Which might mean that if you don't follow the letter of the law exactly(or close - very few were "perfectly" broken in) it will burn oil. Anyone who followed the break-in instructions to the letter burning a lot of oil? I tried my best to follow the rules(meaning I didn't - but I was close) and mine doesn't burn any.

I tried my best. Burned one quart between 1,200 and 7,000. Nothing between 7,000 and 11,000 oil service. Nothing to 14,000.<br><font color=#65625E><font size=2>
That's just my opinion, I could be wrong.

I don't think break-in has anything correlation with how much the engine will burn oil. I'm up to 11k and have used about 3 ltrs.

Also, many of us here change their oil every 3-4k miles. If those engines were burning oil, it would be hard to tell as the engine is getting a full load of 6.5 ltrs before the engine oil light will come on. Just a thought.

if you are constantly overfilling, you will burn more and have more blow by.

having your first service at 8500 miles indicates hard driving.

i would expect that these cars burn more oil when they see more time at high revs... i drive mine moderately hard... revving mostly in the 4-6k region... my service is coming up around 12k miles and by then i expect to have added an extra 2.5 liters or so.
