That's a solid sheet of ice on the road. Very strange for this part of Texas.

It may be a while until I can get the company truck open, much less get down the street. With a high of 35, things will stay frozen until nine or ten here.

Central Austin isn;t too bad, but less traveled roads are icy as hell.

My boss called and said not to try coming in until ten. Work from home or risk company property, hmmmm? Tough choice for management, eh?

This is looking outside my front door. Everything is covered by hard, solid ice (looks like snow, but is rock hard):

I walked on top of it, you can see it is not "fluffy" at all:

There is a drift about 1 and 1/2 feet high right in front on my garage (and of course right behing MY car) so even if I wanted to, I can not leave my house.

Even if I could, I am not going to try anyway!

I actually came to work today- because everything is closed, there wasn't much traffic. So it was not too bad...

I'm from the midwest, so I've seen it many times. The problem with e.g. Dallas is that they don't have any salt trucks (at least I haven't seen them) so the roads just stay like this until it melts (looks like that will be tomorrow afternoon). I guess it doesn't make sense to invest in such, this happens only 2-3 days out of the year. Better for our cars too- I drove the trusty toyota today.

Anyway- I can get lots done; people 5 minutes walk from work won't come in today, more less people 20+ miles away like I am.

Be careful out there... I saw lots of mustangs/trans-ams struggling to keep on the roads.

I'm not taking the M3 outta the garage and I'm concerned if I try to get the truck outta of it's parking spot it's gonna hit the building on the way out...since it's parked on a slight incline toward the building. Now if my neighbor would leave then I would have enough turning room to get the truck out safely. Would I go to work??? NO!!! I'd go to CompUSA and Best Buy and get a new NIC card for my other PC so I could VPN into work :)
