I've noticed that when my engine is cold, A1/A2 won't engage properly. 2 things -- #1 it won't go into 2nd gear at a stop (when its cold) in A1 mode -- i.e. at a full stop if you are in A1 it should start in 2nd gear rather than 1st until it is warmed up -- then it starts in 2nd in A1 at a full stop; #2 it won't change gears in A1 or A2 until around 3800 RPM (until its warmed up, then it does it around 2000 for A1).

Any ideas?

Everything is slow until it warms up.

..have the techs look at it.

sometimes the car will shift directly into 2 from R.

if it only does it cold, you are probably OK. Mine takes forever to do the 1-2 shift when it's cold in S5; once it has warmed up, it's fine. I'll try it in A mode and see what happens.

I guess when cold, the SMG delays the shift point in A mode. I have been told this is to get the cat up to temperature as fast as possible.
