I'm really trying to find ways to make my car a little faster (without stripping my car). My goal is to get over 300-320hp at the wheels. Is there anything I can do safely?

Has anyone dynoed over 300 hp?

Several folks do have M3's up near 300 hp to the rear wheels. But it aint cheap. You're looking at thousands of dollars _each_ for exhaust, headers, cats, cams, pulleys and lots of software tuning.

If you want the most proven S54 upgrade, look up Nowack's operation. He'll take your motor, tear it down, replace most of the internals with upgraded and blueprinted variants, increase your compression ratio, new pistons, valves, cam, intake, exhaust, headers, etc. He then re-programs the ecu, and you pick either pump-gas tuning for around 380 hp (crank) or race-gas tuning which runs 404 hp crank. He also has a race cam setup which goes even high on hp, but is rated at only a few hundred hours run time between rebuilds...

That's the best one I know of.

If you want something more affordable, and less annoying (ship motor to europe a big hassle)... Then you'd be looking at perhaps Euro headers, ehxaust, chip reprogram, and cams from one of several shops that know how to put all these mods on and get it running properly. Probably $10k to $15k depending on labor charges, and you'll likely be up 20 hp to 30 hp from stock, perhaps more depending on how brave you are with the cam, and how lousy an idle you want.

There are essentially no cheap mods for interesting amounts of hp. EvoSport has some underdrive pulleys that should free up perhaps 4 to 6 hp. Exhaust are worth 0 to 5 hp in my opinion. Based on cost/benefit, the best single mod is probably a $100 lightweight battery which drops ~35 pounds off the car and that equates to about 3 hp worth of thrust.
