I hate it!

It drives nice but they made the car too big, I hate the chromed door grips

Wheels stink too and we cant get the gray wood and sport trim package here

the lower bumper opening looks like an after thought and the exterior mirrors look like they are worth $5 they look very cheap.

The really made it like a Lincoln not a Jaguar there is nothing elegant or classic about the 2004,

go look at the Vandan Plas, No Picnic Tables and No Soft Leather. Rear seat leg room isnt something to rave about

Oh the wheels, Yuk they are awefulll Jaguar had nice wheels on almost all there cars until 2003 hit why who knows, wheels make the car now Mercedes and BMW are putting nicer wheels on their cars and Jaguar is switching directions.

It is smooth, fast and the ride is better and steering is super fast and precise but Im not in love with the looks and I cant seem to get over it. Some cars tend to grow on you but this isnt for some reason. As weird as the BMW745 was I actually like the styling, the Jaguar has always been the best looking of all cars now they made an overgrown X Type for the Us Customers who whimmper and moan over certain issues, they should just buy a Lexus instead.

Along those lines all the headaches I deal with servicing my car and the bogus dealer netowrks in my area, this player may be switching teams soon.

I have seen the new 2004 xj but not the R. Jaguar has retained the traditional styling of the xj's but parked next to an older xj, the 2004 looses alot of the original xj's appeal. Even the 2003 xj's have lost some of the deep curves of the tail and hood of the original.
Jaguar is attempting to compete with the s class and 7 series. They have created a competitor but have also lost some identity of which will be missed by people who love the original design.

I agree, the 2004 stinks. Marginalized styling - looks like everything else out there.

Unless Jaguar steps up to the plate and produces the R-Coupe I may have to switch teams as well. I got a few more years left on my XJR, but the new E55 is awfully tempting.

Im glad Im not the only one, XJOwner I have an E55 on order for Early Spetember delivery

Black/Black and red interior panorama roof

I drove it, it is wild and I agree I had a 1999 E55 the New one looks nice Jaguar did make the car compete with the 7 series and the S

but go back the XJR always was compared to the E55 and M5

Now with the S Type R they had to differentiate the products but the best part the styling was lost.

The only issues I feel with Mercedes is the build quality and materials are not the same and the new E has been having alot of problems, this is inside info I recieve so this makes me worried on a car with high compression running 15psi while I hear reports of motors blowing up on dealers lots, yikes the cost $35k for that AMG motor. They are building them too fast and actually outsource them as well nearby by a small Mercedes Tuner which of course they will never disclose but Ive seen it firsthand.

I agree.

I've seen the new R...but the looks just don't do it for me. I'd rather retain the X308 body style and modify the car to make it just as quick if not quicker.

I know, I know...I haven't done anything yet.

Thanks,
Stephen

I love the way it looks. I agree, it does not look quite as good as an X308, but not much does. And I usually hate "the new one" of anything when it first comes out, but then after a few years it grows on me.

They did a good job of keeping the XJ theme going, while making the car big enough to be a legitimate competitor to the LS430, S-class, and 7-series.

Let's face it, for Jaguar to survive, they have to make cars that appeal to a broader audience. That means the XJ had to get bigger. While I fit perfectly in an X308, I am 5-10 and 160. Others are taller and wider, and don't fit, so they get an S class instead, because the Jag cockpit will not accomodate them.

I think they did a great job of making the car bigger without making it look bigger - the car still makes it's competitors look like tanks or Brinks trucks.

And to top it off, while making it bigger, they made it lighter! that plus a bit more power = Faster = awesome.

I dislike the dark wood that they think looks sporty, glad to hear that it isn't in the XJ anymore.

Even with all that, my XJ purchase will still be an X308. I need the new one to depreciate a lot more before it gets in my price range.

I really like how they brought back the "cats ear" taillight design that we haven't seen since the twin chrome gas cap XJ.

...I move this thread over to the board for the new XJ8/XJR? We need to get discussion going on it. I don't think everyone realizes that it is the board to use to talk about the new model.
better car in just about every way. More safety, faster, room (what's wrong with the car being bigger?), less weight, better handling, and whatnot.

rear seat leg room is not anything to rave about in the "old" XJ.

It looks alright.. I mean it looks like it got the basic upgrades that every luxury car has now - hid lights, led rears.. sensors. The back end I don't like that much... looks a little cartooney. The front looks nearly the same. Overall I just don't see the point of upgrading to the newer version if I happened to own the previous model. But then again, I don't own a jag.
