Reason I asked is because I'm out of budget to get an M3 as my wife only allowed me to have a $55k play budget. I want another motorcycle this year so I might need an alternative. I have been eyeing on the WRX STIs because is 4 seater and kids can go in the back. I was on my X5 running one and was impressed at the performance/price.

So, anyone can help me?

thx.

A 2002 M3 is still close to $45k...the motorcycle I want is $18k: Ducati 999s

While a new Evo (or STi) is easier/cheaper to modify, you could find a mod'd
E36M3 out there for about 30k ... depending on condition & mods. Or buy
a stock E36 M3 & modify it yourself. Cams, intake, exhaust, suspension &
software about 7-10k atop the E36M3 price (15-20k for a 95-96).

The e36m3 was a great car (had 2), just doesn't have SMG but neither
do the Evo or STi.

I need it kinda smog legal so I can play on the street too...Also, the factory warranty seems to be a good idea.

I have yet washed a single piece of cloths for the 13 years and the house is kept immaculate. I can't really complain about that.

Only thing she wants are new furnishings and vacations..something I enjoy anyways.

With her, I have a tally of tons of shooting toys, motorcycles, computers stuff, and cars. I figured I'd might as well fill my homes with toys for the "children" when they grow up.

For me personally, I'd go with something RWD and not too heavy. I'd avoid AWD because throttle steering a RWD car in mid-corner is too much fun to pass up. :)

I'd look at:
- used E36 M3 (more practical for daily use as well)
- S2000 (great track car, not much understeer)

I'm not a big fan of V6 engines so I'd pass on the Z and G35.

HTH.

mmmm some ideas.....

bike is how much? 20K
so that leaves 35k roughly....

Sti, sure, they're nice
350Z, nice
how about finding an E36M3, can find some pretty clean, handle great

E36M3 is a tremendous auto, arguably one of the best handling right out of the box.

Engine modifications are aplenty, and it would allow the bike as well...of course, warranty would more than like be out, but hey.

More mods available for the 95's....

and it has the best shifter ever! It doesnt have any torque and all th power is between 6k and 9k rpm just like a motorcycle. The best part is that it handles like a go-kart its just awesome to drive fast. plus they sell below msrp now so about $30k. so add that up to the 18k for the ducatti and you still have seven thousand dollars for a comptech supercharger and exhaust for the s2000.
it is an absolutely awesome track car, it will keep your grin wide, and your adrenalin high. It is one of the most capable road/track cars on the market, along with the Audi & Porsche Twin Turbo\'s.

Put coil overs, sways, and tires on it, and away you go..............

I have been on the track with the at Laguna, Willow and Sears, and they give away nothing, they are very very capable cars, as are the Lancer Evos, you wouldn\'t go wrong with either.

BTW, you can get early E46\'s in your price range, just keep your eyes open.
As a former owner of an '00 M Roadster I can attest that while the rear suspension isn't as good as the M3s the real problem was the body flex. Most people blamed the suspension but with the body flexing the suspension never really got a chance to work. Solve that with some body stiffening addons (butt strut and body brace) and the rear suspension isn't half bad at all. But don't forget that most tracks will probably require a real roll bar instead of the factory roll hoops.

Get the e46m3 but if that's out of the question, for $30K you can get an Mitsu Lancer evo and have money left over for your bike. I think one of the car magazines did a head to head vs the WRX and the evo won out overall.
